Elizabeth was born at Ashley Gorge, Oxford, North Canterbury. She has lived in the North Canterbury region for most of her life, apart from the time teaching in other areas and travelling overseas.
Elizabeth, a retired School Teacher, began painting in her early teens. She preferred the medium of water colour, which she believes allows her to capture the subtleties of her subject matter.
The passion and motivation that Elizabeth has for her painting comes from her love of her natural surroundings. She regularly tramps up in the Canterbury Ranges and further afield, to find that unique perspective that accurately captures not only the stunning beauty of the local landscape, but also the mood of the landscape.
Her interest in native flora, sometimes found only in the alpine country, also provides plentiful subject matter, and allows her to highlight some of the unique hidden beauty that is found nestled in amongst the ruggedness of the local environment.
With a deeply rooted local connection and love for the natural environment, Elizabeth's paintings provide a timeless portrayal of the North Canterbury landscape and beyond.
